Botulinum toxin has been a highly successful treatment for dystonia and other movement disorders. Patients with abnormal arm, leg, or trunk positions, or one of many various movement disorders such as dystonia, blepharospasm, or hemifacial spasm may have dramatic benefit with proper injections.

Botulinum toxin blocks the neurotransmitter or chemical acetylcholine from being released into the space between the muscle and nerve. This temporarily weakens the muscle and has tremendous
therapeutic benefits.

The treatment is injected into the muscle by our botulinum toxin and dystonia specialists Drs. Hubert Fernandez and Ramon Rodriguez. Drs. Fernandez and Rodriguez have extensive experience both at UF in using EMG guided botulinum toxin therapy. Dr. Fernandez has also been involved in several of the clinical trials of this therapy.
