University of Florida researchers are studying whether giving testosterone to men with Parkinson’s disease who have low levels of the hormone will curb some symptoms of the disease.
Many Parkinson’s disease patients have symptoms such as low energy, fatigue, loss of quality of life in addition to the common motor sympotms. Initial findings published in the November 2002 issue of Archives of Neurology showed that patients who received testosterone lost an average of two nonmovement-related symptoms.
